Paul has been a part of RTS Solutions for nearly five years, joining initially as a Product Manager he has now taken on the role of Business Development Manager. We caught up with Paul to find out how he is settling into his new role and navigating the ever-evolving challenges presented by the industry.
How long have you worked in the rail industry?
“I joined RTS Solutions as a Product Manager around 5 years ago. Joining the RTS team was my first experience of the rail industry, and since entering the sector I’ve learnt a lot. Prior to RTS, I worked in software development in the retail sector for a variety of organisations, including Boots and Arcadia, as part of IBM.”
What drew you to the rail industry?
“I was initially drawn to rail and to joining RTS Solutions as it presented such a new and different opportunity for me.”
One piece of advice you would give to someone starting out in the rail industry?
“Learn the acronyms! Speak to people who have worked in the industry for many years and know how things really work, and don’t be afraid to ask questions.”
What do you most enjoy about rail?
“Being part of a growing SME is exciting. I have witnessed the progression of innovative thinking and its implementation across the industry, which has been really interesting to see.
“At RTS, we’re always building on the digital solutions that we are known for, and we look forward to expanding the use of technology in the industry, in turn, helping to facilitate the creation of the digital railway.”
What challenges can RTS solutions help the industry solve?
“The challenge is in changing the culture around a new way of working. We know it can be daunting to move away from a more traditional way of working but the need to access data and information instantly means old processes can’t keep up with demand and you may fall behind the competition.

“Our products allow for the simplification of many tasks which were once complicated and time-consuming, giving teams time to focus on more important responsibilities. Our solutions digitise and modernise work, resource & asset management processes, and procedures.
“We’ve developed a reputation as one of the UK’s leading real-time operational solutions providers. Our engineers are experts in asset and resource management, intuitive mapping, and safety system apps.”
What are you most proud of at RTS?
“Safety is such a big component of our operations at RTS, it forms the foundation of our business. I think the fact that we can help keep people safe when working and ensure they get home safe every day to their families is something to be very proud of.”
